Having continued to follow impact sites K, L, and G across the disk of
Jupiter at July 22.09 UT, we note a pattern with these large impact sites
in which a prominent, dark, seemingly-circular spot is preceeded by an
elongated, diffuse area that swings southward into an obvious shield. Our
seeing has detiorated in the past hour as Jupiter reaches greater air masses,
but we wonder if our earlier remarks about the possible sighting of impact
site "U" were in fact concerning only this same pattern for site K.
Confirmation of the existence (or absence) of a new impact site following the
K impact point needs to be made. John Rogers e-mails us to say that site K
"already had a double dark spot on July 20 (19-20h UT); your description
sounds much the same, so it was probably not showing a U impact scar."
